MANGALORE, Jan 15: The district unit of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will organise a three-month Janandolana' to highlight the 'ongoing false propaganda' against Madrasas.

Janandolana and 'Dharani Satyagrih' planned at the deputy commissioner's office on January 24 will be inaugurated by State IUML president Mirza Ahamed Mehdi.

State IUML vice-president and Mudigere Kazi Sayed Zainul Aabideen Thangal, Manjeshwara MLA Cherkalam Abdulla, member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board Moulana Mufthi Ashraf Ali and other Muslim leaders will also be present on the occasion.

According to a press release from convenor Mohammed Sadik there had been a systematic campaign to discredit madrasas in the coastal district.

IUML had planned the 'andolona' after the DK district administration and the police failed to initiate any action against the 'false propaganda', which is a conspiracy of communal forces.

"Madrasas in the coastal Karnataka has a history of 1,400 years and are the primary schools of Islamic education," Sadik said. Muslim League has also called for a 'Madrasa bandh' on January 24.

DEADLINE ENDS

With the deadline ending on January 9 the 500 and odd Madrasas have begun to voluntarily submit information on the source of funding, permission, number of students, teachers and the presence of foreign students in the respective madrasas.

The deadline had been extended to January 9 following a request from Karnataka State Minorities Commission Chairman Masood.

Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of police B Dayananda told the newspersons that Madrasas, which had earlier resisted moves to collect details have begun to furnish information about their respective  madarasas.
