Mangalore: Parked tourist car catches fire, water service swings into action

Mangalore, Jun 24: A Tata Indigo tourist car (KA 19 B 6550) parked near Kadri Kambala here caught fire all of a sudden on Monday June 24.

Ravindra, the owner-cum-driver of the car, resident of Pavoor had been to the airport on hire. He dropped the clients to their residence in Kadri Kambla Guthu, but as the vehicle couldn’t go all the way to the house, he parked the car by the road side and walked along with them to the house.

On returning, he found that the car had caught fire all of a sudden.

It is suspected that a minor short circuit sparked off the fire. Luckily, no one was in the car at the time of the incident

The fire department was called. Meanwhile, Kadri Guthu water service, which is near to the incident spot, rushed with water tankers and helped to douse the fire.

The quick action saved Ravindra from incurring a major loss.

The fire brigade too came to the spot, but only after the fire was completely doused.

A case has been registered in the Kadri police station.

    Many thanks for your observation and your valid personal experience. Indeed the latest cars are just show only in the name of giving good mileage and other latest facilities while competing with other brands, car manufacturers do not consider the safety aspects.

    All manufacturers involved with automobiles, phones, electronics etc want to cash on after warranty service. they want to milk cash through expiry of warranty/guarantee of the product as they know that the main components that are the lifeline to that product is the first to expire or wearout. there is a need for quality checks from experienced techs and Inspectors as there is scope of loss of life/lives.

    WAIT A MINUTE!!! I thought the Mangalore fire brigade is responsible to put out any fire.. I am surprised to see a Water Supply Tanker doing the job.

    Whats the Matter??!!...looks like our Fire Brigade doesn't have water in its tanker or perhaps these sarkari department is on a paid vacation.

    Mangalore without fire brigade plans to become the next Singapore..what a joke!!!

    This is mainly caused by failure of fuel return lines (Rubber) from injection nozzles and fuel pump to fuel tank. Now days to cut down manufacturing cost majority of vehicle fuel lines under low pressure are simple rubber pipes without steel mesh. Naturally rubber pipes have their own life span and due to different temperature conditions inside engine compartment it become brittle and cause the leakage of fuel and in case fuel spill on hot exhaust manifold(Red hot), no doubt, it ignites. I had experience with my TATA Indica while driving in NH66. Hope Vehicle manufacturer will think seriously in this regards. It may cost peanut while comparing human life. After all, safety is first.
