Udupi, Jan 14: A press release stated that a forty-four year old man from Kerala was successfully implanted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), by cardiologists at the Kasturba Hospital at Manipal.

The patient who was suffering from abnormal heart beat was referred to the hospital with the problem of ‘recurrent ventricular tachycardia’, where the heart beat of the patient increases abnormally and is one of the leading causes of death.

ICDs are easier to implant. They detect the ventricular tachycardia, and when the heart rate exceeds the normal beats, the device gives shock and converts the heart rate to normal.
