Mangalore: Second edition of 'Kalakulotsav' drama festival gets under way

Mangalore, Jun 22: 'Kalakulotsav', a two-day Konkani drama festival conducted by Kalakul repertory of Mandd Sobhann, commenced at the Don Bosco Hall here on Saturday June 23.
On the first day, ‘Rayachi Novi Mustayki’ (children's play based on the famous story ‘Emperor's New Clothes’) was enacted. The play was beautifully performed by child artistes who were trained by the ‘Kalakul repertory’ during the summer drama camp. Every actor performed with elan, keeping the audience glued to their seats all through.
Next was another play called ‘Melya Upranth’ meaning ‘After death’ which was enacted by Kalakul artistes who rendered marvellous performances.
Both the plays were written by Arun Raj Rodrigues and directed by Christopher D’Souza Neenasum. The plays shed light on various aspects relevant to the present society and conveyed meaningful messages.
Kalakul artistes Melwin Avinash Pais, Darrel D’Souza, Anil D’Souza, Sandeep Mascarenhas, Rivin Crasta, Nishith Lobo, Sunil Antony, Hanly Coelho, Mariya Joyce, Michel Crasta, Malcon Rego portrayed different characters in the plays.
Inaugurating the festival, litterateur Fr Pratap Naik JS from Goa said, "Only human beings know language, culture and other aspects and not any other living being. Various forms of art like singing, acting, and dance play an important part in every drama."
He further said, "The artistes who are entertaining us in the two-day drama festival need our encouragement and support for their personal growth and to enhance their art.
"Various bollywood actors were intially theatre actors and then they came to cinema industry. Similarly, through our constant support and encouragement, even these young artistes can shine as future stars," he added.
The second day, that is Sunday June 23 will feature two plays ‘Bomma’ based on the story of Hardhyar Kuris by the late A T Lobo at 5 pm, and ‘Mr Jesus’, another popular play at 7 pm.
Stany Alvares, Mandd Sobhan president, Naveen D’Souza, vice president, gurkar Eric Ozario, Vitori Karkal among others were present.
