KIOCL workers knock govt doors for protection
 
Mangalore: The DK Zilla Dalit Naukarara Hitarakshana Samiti has urged the State and the Union governments to take necessary measures to protect the interest of Kudremukh Iron Ore Corporation Limited workers.

Speaking to news persons, Samiti general secretary Seetaram K coming down heavily on environmentalists, he accused them of being responsible for the closure of the company. Nearly 2,500 direct recruited employees have lost their jobs with the company closing down and about 10,000 coolie men and their family have also been affected. As unemployment prevails here, it may result in rising anti social elements like Naxalism, he observed
.
Many companies in the country are near by the Side Sea and rivers. But environmentalists despite having knowledge of this, are quite, the members alleged.
Meanwhile, Seetharam said no strict measures have been taken by the Central or the State government to protect the welfare of the workers. A protest will be held in front of DC office and even at vidhana Soudha, if the demands are not met, the members threatened.

All India Physiotherapy Students Conference held in Town Hall

Mangalore: In a jam-packed Town Hall, the third All India Physiotherapy Students Conference was held on Friday. Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore (RGUHS) former vice-chancellor and Indian Redcross Society vice-president Dr Chandrashekhar Shetty inaugurated the mega event.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that education institutions should demand for a separate developmental body rather than a regulatory council which will regulate the colleges. Instead the demand should be made for a development council, said Dr Shetty.

Curricular aspect was one of the issues which called for attention, where in the curricular should be dynamic and should change according to the changes in the society. Further, he advised the institutions to opt for newer learning resources with components of research and also offer consultancy services, he said.

On the occasion, various prizes to the winners of both academic and non-academic activities were given away.

In the programme organized by the South Kanara Physiotheraphy Teachers Association, member rehabilitation council of India Dr M Ramgopal Shetty,  Indian cricket team former physiotherapist Dr Ali Irani,  RGUHS Bangalore, syndicate and senate member Dr C N Aswath Narayan, RGUHS senate member Dr Rajesh Kumar, Shree Devi Educational Trust chairman A Sadananda Shetty, City College of physiotheraphy president Dr Bhaskar Shetty and Nitte College of Physiotherapy principal Dr P Sreekumaran participated.

Section 144 imposed at Kadaba: Group clashes witnessed

Puttur: Section 144 has been imposed at Kadaba and Kodimbala towns after a quarrel ensued between two groups regarding annual celebrations at Sri Durgambika Temple, Kadaba.

The section will be in force upto 12 am night on Sunday. Only the pooja rituals inside the temple are permitted during the period and any other rituals outside the temple are banned.
