Mangalore: Dramatist Charlie Sequeira to be conferred Karavali Konkans award

Mangalore, Jun 20: Karavali Konkans will organize its annual drama ‘Aavo Javo Goan Tumhara’ on August 15, at 5.45 pm at Don Bosco hall, said well-known compere and president of Karavali Konkans Leslie Rego.
This year's Karavali Konkan Kala Prashasti will be conferred on prominent dramatist Charlie Sequeira on the occasion. The award consists of Rs 50,000 cash, citation, memento and a bouquet.

The announcement was made by releasing the drama tickets at Don Bosco hall here on Thursday June 20. The first ticket of the drama was purchased by Adolphus Cutinha (Dolla Mangalore). The drama, a social comedy, will be staged by a Goan troupe.
Fr Reginald, parish priest of Eliyarpadav was the chief guest while Claud D’Souza, secretary of Karavali Konkans, and Charlie Sequeira shared the dais.
Briefing about the future programmes of the association, Leslie Rego said a talk will be organized on the contributions made by V J P Saldanha at St Sebastian hall, Bendore on August 23 evening and the association will also release a CD of Konkani classic songs on August 15. The CD will consist of 12-13 songs and the recording work is in progress, he added.
Fr Reginald said that he was happy to be a part of this programme. "I am closely associated with Konkani artistes. Even while conducting retreats, I sing hyms of Wilfy as he is an inspiration to several people," said Fr Reginald.
"These days dramas are losing importance. Associations should work on preserving art rather than making profit," he opined.
