Bangalore, Jun 19: Two persons, who used to visit the city every two weeks for snatching away chains from the necks of woman, and go back to their homes in Uttar Pradesh, have been nabbed by the local police.
They have been identified as Vicky Singh alias Vicky (33), and Vishal Singh (23), both from Dauki in Agra district, Uttar Pradesh. 1.007 kg of gold valued at around Rs 30 lac was found hidden inside the fan inside their lodge room.
Both these thieves were in the habit of reaching New Delhi from Agra and then fly into the city once in two weeks. They used to park a Pulsar motor bike bearing Mumbai registration number at KSRTC bus stand parking lot. By using this bike, they roamed around the city, snatched away chains from women found to be alone, before reaching back their lodge in either Majestic or Shivajinagar area, and flying back, said additional police commissioner, Kamal Pant. The stolen gold was sold in Agra or New Delhi.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday June 18, Pant said every visit of the thieves to the city lasted for two to three days.
Pant said that the thieves chose KSRTC parking lot as they thought no one will grow suspicious about their movements there. The city police had received 22 chain snatching complaints against people resembling the descriptions of the accused. The policemen grew suspicious after watching the movement of this bike in the CCTV in KSRTC bus stand, after which they made enquiries with the parking operators, and then followed the motor bike when the thieves came here.
In the past too, several such high profile thieves making air travel had been held by the city police.
