Mangalore, Jan 12: Prof K M Kaveriappa has been appointed sixth vice-chancellor of Mangalore University. He will take charge on Thursday.
The post was vacant for the last 75 days since the term of Prof B Hanumaiah ended on October 27. Prof Thimme Gowda, chairman of Chemistry department was working as the in-charge VC during this period.
Kaveriappa is currently serving as the head of Applied Botany department of the same university, and has the experience of 34 years service.
Hailing from Arameri village near Virajpet in Coorg, Kaverappa had been the registrar of the university for 12 years. He has guided 11 PhD scholars and has led 8 major projects. He is also the recipient of the prestigious Fullbright Fellowship and Commonwealth Fellowship.
