Mangalore: PCR vehicle smashes into truck, policeman critically injured

Mangalore, Jun 18: A policeman who was driving a PCR vehicle reportedly lost control and rammed into a truck parked near MCF here on Tuesday June 18.

Sources said that the policeman, Mohan, was on his way from Mulky when the accident took place.

Sources said that when Mohan was driving the PCR vehicle, an oncoming truck passed by him, splashing rain water on to the police vehicle, which resulted in Mohan losing control.

The PCR vehicle first hit a divider and then smashed into a truck parked nearby. While the truck plunged over the side of the road, the PCR vehicle was completely damaged.

Mohan, who was critically injured, was rushed to AJ hospital.

The truck driver who lodged a complaint claimed that Mohan was driving on the wrong side and was speeding too. A police source also corroborated the statement.

Panambur police have registered a case.

    vinod... the stretch the accident has taken place, the four-laning work is completed.. from Surathkal to Mangalore the work is completed and there is no confusion...

    from the accident is clearly looks that the PCR van being driven at high speed...

    I suggest lets all the Ministry vehicle drivers go for "Defensive Driving Training" and all the vehicle needs to install the speed control system

    i agree that many people go deliberately on wrong side to avoid taking turn.But since this accident has taken place on the highway one cannot rule out the possibility that he might have got confused and came on wrong side.the highway has got diversions everywhere due to incomplete fourlaning work.some places it is good with proper seperations and some places it is not complete and vehicles have to ply on same side.The highway authorites should complete the work quickly.

    Except in an emergency , traffic rules do apply to Police vehicles too. There was no report of an emergency in this case. Then, is that overspeeding (it is evident from the photograph)which is a clear violation of traffic rules????

    It is only in India that we overtake from both sides. We break lanes, traffic and signal rules and many such illegal methods we do while driving. Even while at signal point we are suppose minimum 8 ft distance between each vehicle but there also we don't leave space and then we hold the vehicle in front liable. I have seen several such cases. We can straighten a dog's tail even if we put it in a pipe but we cannot straighten a human mind.

    Looking at the vehicles its clear the PCR was being driven at high speeds. Rains and high speed driving is a disaster in making.. Hope the authorities investigates and takes action

    POWER PLAYS IN THE MINDS OF DRIVERS WHO ARE WEALTHY OR POWERFUL, BUT THEY FAIL TO SEE THAT MAN'S SKIN IS LESS THAN 1 MILLIMETER THICK AND HIS BODY IS 70% WATER.
    CIVILIAN ROADS ARE NOT RACE TRACKS.

    Every where you will find scooterists and ever cars going wrong side of the road just because they have to go round and take a turn to right side of road.

    And one day this type of accident happens and nothing can be done. too late.

    Very sad. Please follow rules for driving to make our place a safe place for everyone, both you and me.
