Mangalore, Jan 10: Y K Sanjeev Shetty (76), the former president of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat passed away in the small hours of Tuesday January 10 at Bangalore, following a massive heart attack. He was on a visit to his daughter's house at Bangalore.
He had been elected to the DK Zilla Panchayat from Kinnigoly constituency in 1995. While being at the helm of ZP, he had earned respect from all circles for a lot of developmental works that he had undertaken. Owing to illness, he had kept himself away from active politics during the last few years.
But he was involved in grooming the younger generation of Janata Dal (S) leaders. Though he represented Janata Dal (S), leaders of other parties appreciated him for his experience and warm disposition. He was indeed a statesman in the true sense. Even the party workers used to take recourse to him for guidance and political knowledge. No doubt with his untimely death, a big void has been created in the political circles, which cannot be filled in very easily. Many top political leaders have condoled his death.
He ran a cement business under the name "Sahana Traders" . He is survived by wife, 3 sons and a daughter.
