Mangalore, Jan 10:  Karnataka Kala Kendra (KKK,) a unit of Sandesha Foundation for Culture and Education, celebrated its annual day on January 7 at the Sandesha Kalabhavan. Dinesha Rao of the CAD media presided over the function and Nritya Bharati director Geeta Saralaya, animal-lover and Prem Chaya director Clifford D’Souza and city corporator and former deputy mayor Lancelot Pinto were the Guests of Honour.

All the dignitaries were full of praise for Sandesha for the efforts it makes to inculcate the taste for the rich Indian classical arts and for the opportunities it provides to those who are interested in learning them. They called upon the parents to make their children cultured and develop their personality through these fine arts.

Karnataka Kala Kenda has been organizing convenient after-school part-time classes to inculcate a taste for the Indian classical arts and to train those interested in them. Other than students, doctors, teachers and  businessmen too are taking benefit of these classes.

At present, more than 201 students are getting training in the different arts like Bharatanatyam, Carnatic Vocal, Indian musical instruments like Harmonium, Tabla, Violin, Sitar. Drawing and Painting, as well as Guitar, Drums and Keyboard and they presented items to exhibit the skills they had learnt during their training.

Jayalakshmi Shastry spoke on behalf of the teachers, Kusharathi on behalf of the parents and Vibha expressed her sentiments about her experience as a student at KKK. Flora D’Souza presented the annual report.

The KKK teachers were honoured at the function and the best students received prizes. Sandesh director Fr Denis D’Sa spoke on the occasion .

The function was conducted by the students themselves with Sudeep and Sneha compering the programme and Rosebert Maria Goveas proposing a vote of thanks.
