Mangalore, Jun 8: The Dakshina Kannada and Udupi units of Jamiyyatul Falah on Saturday June 8 organized a thanksgiving and felicitation programme for the newly-elected ministers, MLAs and MCC members from the coastal region. The programme was held at Jamiyyatul community hall.
Addressing the gathering, minister for forests Ramanath Rai said that people from all communities and religions had voted for him and that he would strive to preserve communal harmony and brotherhood in the region.
"People from all communities and religions have elected me, and this time I gained 89,000 votes. It is because of the confidence of the people on me, and definitely, I will strive to uphold the communal harmony and brotherhood in society. About 75 percent of the people from various communities and religions have chosen me for the 6th time," he said.
Referring to the previous BJP government, Rai said, "Those who ruled by playing divisive politics have completely lost in Dakshina Kannada. It shows that people did not endorse their politics of hatred."
"Politics of hatred had polarised the society but the Congress government will reduce this gap. The Congress government under the leadership of Siddaramaiah will surely protect and preserve communal harmony in society," he said.
Abdussalam Puthige, editor of Kannada daily Vartha Bharathi, in his congratulatory address said, "People have witnessed various developments in the last two months. During the time of elections political parties try to please the voters at their doorsteps, but it is their responsibility to serve the society after they get elected. The leaders should work for the welfare of common man. Representatives should not leave the common man in the lurch. Politicians appease voters before elections but they should appease them later too by doing constructive work. The popularity of a politician is only temporary, he should give up own interests for the sake of people."
He added, "Today, differences among castes and sects have created problems in society, and politicians should work carefully to resolve them. When an individual gets power he develops ego but if he is disciplined he can overcome ego. The present leaders should learn from their predecessors and realize that they too will one day become 'former' leaders."
On this occasion Ramanath Rai, MLAs J R Lobo, Mohiuddin Bava, corporators Basher Hameed, M Abdul Aziz, K Mohammed, Abdul Rauf, Abdul Lathif, Aziz Hameed, R Zubeda, Sumayya, Rameeza, Navin D, Naveen D'Souza, and NCRR president Nazir Hameed were felicitated.
Jamiyyatul Falah office-bearers Khaleel Hameed, Zameer Amber, K Shahul and others were present.
