Arvind Kejriwal to contest against Sheila Dikshit in Delhi polls

New Delhi, Jun 2 (CNN-IBN): Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal will contest directly against Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in the coming Delhi Assembly elections. Dikshit has contested from the New Delhi constituency in the past.
AAP took the decision after a meeting of its volunteers in the national capital on Sunday. AAP plans to emerge as a key player in Delhi after the state election.

Last week, AAP also released the first shortlist of 44 probable candidates for 12 seats in the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Names that leap out of the list are those of Manish Sisodia from Patpartganj, Sazia Ilmi from RK Puram and Somnath Bharti from Malaviya Nagar. AAP's list of probables also has former Congress and BJP workers such as Bheem Singh and Kishori Lal Dhanak who haven't contested an election yet.

The Aam Aadmi Party took the decision after a meeting of its volunteers in the national capital on Sunday.

There will be a second round of screening followed by preferential voting by active volunteers from each area before the number comes down to 12. The final decision will be taken by the Political Affairs Committee of the party. Kejriwal had said that AAP's selection process was a way to "cleanse politics" while challenging the BJP and the Congress not to field tainted candidates.

Kejriwal has been taking on Sheila Dikshit in the recent past over inflated electricity bills in Delhi and has also accused her government of corruption.

It is a welcome step from Sri Kejriwal to contest against present CM of Delhi. But I want to say one thing to Mr.Kejriwal that the confrontation and criticism is not good way of administration.Hope, the people are not deprived of their good MLA because of Mr.Kejriwal's antoganising approach.Thanq.

Mr. Arvind Kejriwal's major steps in life from:
    1. Top Govt. Service - to
    2. Anti Corruption Crusader - to
    3. Politician
Most of the People don't have formed opinion about him, but believe he is secular and are neutral but cautious.
If he really able to fight against the rotten the system and bring positive changes, certainly he and people of India will have great time ahead.

CM of Delhi is nothing than Mayor of the City.

CM does not have power on Delhi Police. Its controlled by Home Ministry of Union of India. Its Civic administration coming under MCD.

For any changes or development CM has to consult Central Govt bcoz it is power centre of India......Now DW readers can decide - The CM of Delhi is puppet or caged Parrot...

In this 65 years of Independence, we have seen more of congress and not much of BJP. But both parties are the 2 sides of the same coin when it comes to corruption. It is time people think new and bring about change. 65 years since independence, people are fed up and time for change at the heart of India (Delhi) that could bring about changes in other parts of India. Time for change.

Peter, AAP will affect both Congress and BJP. If Congress lose power in Delhi, it is mainly because congress has failed to maintain law and order situation. There is no justice done to rape victims. I heard someone saying Delhi should not be our capital as it is filled with criminals and rapists. So time has come for a change in the governance. People should give chance to AAP as they have seen both Congress and BJP failing miserably.
