Parishes of Mangalore, Udupi converge for Imperialz cricket tourney

Mangalore, May 14: Team Imperialz on the occasion of their third anniversary organized ‘Imperialz Cup – 2013’, cricket tournament, for parishes of Mangalore and Udupi Diocese for boys below 25 years of age.
Imperialz Cup is being organized for the past two years in the month of May to get the youth of different parishes under a single umbrella to exhibit their talents in the form of a sport.
The third edition of Imperialz Cup was hosted at the College of Fisheries Grounds, Yekkur on May 11 and 12. Twenty different teams from all over the city took part in the tournament. The tournament had a special charm with all the ICC rules being followed. Parishes such as Derebail, Angelore, Vamanjoor, Bondel, Kuloor, Shirva, Bejai, Cascia, Ferar, Valencia and others played in this year’s tournament.
Vamanjoor A team won the third season of Imperialz Cup whereas Neermarga were the runners up. Neermarga winning the toss opted to bat first in the finals, scoring just 31 runs in their prescribed five overs. Vamanjoor A reached the target with two balls to spare. Pramith from Vamanjoor scored 18 runs and set up the victory for the Vamanjoor team and was rightly adjudged the man of the match.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Fr Maxim Rosario, administrator, St Joseph Seminary, Jeppu and Kankanady B ward corporator Praveenchandra Alva was the chief guest.
At the concluding ceremony, Fr Joseph Martis, rector of St Joseph Seminary was the chief guest. He congratulated all the participant and winning teams and urged to play the sport at an even higher level.
Marvin, Larry, Sandeep, Shawn, Ashok and Delan gave way running commentary. Neville, Fernson and Darren were the scorers for the tournament.
All the matches were of five overs and the matches were played along for two days. The finals of the tournament were played on Sunday May 12 at 4.30 pm. The first edition of Imperialz Cup was held at St Aloysius Centenary Grounds, where Neermarga were the winners, and the second edition was won by Derebail parish.
