Mangalore: Murder of bank officer Anjana - Accused remains elusive
Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)
Mangalore, May 14: Although the police have put in a lot of efforts into the case relating to the murder of Anjana (24), assistant manager, Syndicate Bank, Katipalla branch, in a house rented by her friend at Bijai Kapikad in the city on April 18 this year, they have not been able to make any headway.
The stumbling block in their efforts has been the cleverness of Mahesh, who is the murder-accused in the case, in not leaving behind any traces of his whereabouts or address anywhere.
Relating to the case registered in Urva police station here, a police team was dispatched to West Bengal in an effort to trace Mahesh, who is missing since April 18. Mahesh was working in an eatery in Bharath Mall Bijai, which specializes in fish products. It is said that Mahesh, a north Indian, was known to Anjana since her student days.
Anjana was from Kozhikode, but no one knows about the exact name and native place of Mahesh. She had completed her MBA a year ago at NITK Suratkal, before joining Syndicate bank as probationary assistant manager. Eyewitnesses had said Anjana had visited Mahesh at his rented home often, and both of them had roamed in the city a few times, but her family did not know anything about Mahesh. Anjana's friends had known her to be a kind-hearted and good-natured person.
As gold ornaments of the lady, who was strangulated with the help of a rope, had gone missing along with Mahesh after her murder, it was suspected that Mahesh had killed her. The police have not been leaving any stones unturned in their efforts to nab Mahesh, but they find that everywhere he had worked, Mahesh left no clue about his proper address. This has become a challenge for the police entrusted with the investigation in the case.
Though two roommates of Mahesh had been taken into custody in the case, it does not seem to have yielded the desired results so far, as sources claimed that they were not involved in the crime and were absent at the time of the murder.
The police personnel have also been trying to coordinate cell phone calls of various persons to contact Mahesh’s relatives and gather details about him. A police officer said that many questions which remain unanswered as on date, will get solved once the police are able to question Mahesh, about whom even his friends, colleagues, and those who shared his rented home, do not know much.
