Congress takes pride over Bansal, Ashwani exit

New Delhi, May 11 (IANS): The Congress Saturday sought to take a high moral ground over the resignation of ministers P.K. Bansal and Ashwani Kumar, saying they quit though the charges against them have not been proved in a court of law.

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had never shown such character.

The two ministers resigned Friday after the Congress leadership asked them to go following allegations of corruption and impropriety.

Bansal is under a cloud after his nephew was arrested for accepting a bribe for promising a Railway Board post to an official. Kumar is accused of interfering in the investigation into the coal blocks allocation.

I have done no wrong, says Ashwani Kumar

Former law minister Ashwani Kumar said Saturday that he had done no wrong but had resigned from the cabinet because Prime Minister Manmohan Singh wanted him to.

He told the media here that he quit Friday "to put an end to unnnecessary controversy" regarding allegations of interference in the CBI's probe into the coal blocks allocation.

He insisted that the Supreme Court had made no adverse comments against him.

"My conscience remains clear and I believe I will stand vindicated because divine justice ordains that truth and justice will prevail."

    "kavuchi biddaroo moogu mele"!!!

Let us face it - Bansal or Aswini Kumar were forced to resign by Congress high command, after the high command recognised that they are at fault. If this decision came earlier, parliament could have worked. BJP will now boast that their stalling of parliament is justified - end justifies the means.

Dirty politicking is causing direct and indirect costs to the nation.
