Mumbai, May 6: “The associations should have the objective of social welfare, to help the needy and respond timely in a great need. The bias in social service is not justified, while unbiased service will have greater reward. Maharashtra Konkan Association is a role model in this regard,” said Fr Nelson Saldanha, parish priest of St Jude’s parish.

He was speaking during the eighteenth friendly meet of Maharashtra Konkan Association, held at St Jude’s parish mini hall, Jerimeri, Andheri (East), here recently.

The association president Walter D’Souza Kalmady (Jerimeri) presided over the function.

The metro based Secular Citizen weekly bulletin editor Suzanne L Coelho and Konkani musical Victor Concesso were the guests of honour present on the dais.

Association members John Veigas and Victor Pereira were felicitated on the occasion of celebrating golden jubilee birthday and silver jubilee of wedding anniversary respectively during the programme.

The executive committee members Lancy D’Souza, Elias Pinto, Joseph d’Souza, David D’Souza, Eugene D’Souza, Helen Gudinho, Gregory Monis, John G Mendonca, Cyril Castelino and others were offered flower bouquets.

Earlier, Fr Nelson celebrated Thanksgiving Mass at the church and eighteenth annual general body meeting was held.

Divo Konkani illustrated weekly founder Lawrence Coelho, entrepreneur Peter D’Souza Mulund, L G Monis, the Association director Benedicta B Rebello and others were present.

Association founder Leo Fernandes welcomed the gathering, honorary chief secretary Vincent Castelino presented the annual report, treasurer Gratian D’Souza presented the annual accounts, Lancy D’Souza Niddodi proposed vote of thanks, Cyril Castelino compered the programme.

The music troupe of Victor Concesso and John Mascarenhas staged Konkani musical concert as part of entertainment programme on the occasion.
