Panaji: 'Sankoll' to be released on May 4

Panaji, Apr 29: Dalgado Konkani Akademi (DKA) under its ‘Sahitik Vozram’ Scheme will be releasing a new and unique Konkani novel titled ‘Sankoll.’ The deputy chief minister of Goa,  Francis D’Souza will be chief guest for the book release function, and Konkani enthusiast and lover Fr Conceicao D’Silva will be the guest of honour.

The novel has been penned by renowned Konkani novelist Bonaventure D’Pietro, who is also known as James Hadley Chase of Konkani. The well-researched novel ‘Sankoll’ is based on rich cultural traditions and customs of Christian weddings prevalent in different talukas of Goa, and extending upto Mumbai, where lots of Goans migrated for work and took the Goan culture with them which is preserved by them till today.

As a supplement to the novel, an audio CD will also be made available along with the book, which contains traditional folk songs, ‘zoti’ or ‘vers’, sung during weddings, lyrics of which find mention in the novel. Incidentally, the folk songs have been recorded by Rabin D’Pietro, son of Bonaventure D’Pietro.

Konkani writer Jose Salvador Fernandes will review the novel and Konkani poet Walter Menezes will compere the unique book release function, which has been designed to blend some of the rich cultural traditions and customs of Christian weddings in Goa.

The function will be held on May 4 at Goa Museum Hall, EDC Complex, Patto, Panaji. DKA President  Premanand Lotlikar has appealed all, and especially DKA members to attend the function.
