Hyderabad, Apr 25 (IANS): Mobile High-definition Link (MHL) Consortium is looking to partner with Indian companies, including game publishers, content providers and local mobile device manufacturers to promote its technology, which enables consumers to display HD content from a smartphone to a television.

The US-based consortium, promoted by Nokia, Samsung Electronics, Silicon Image, Sony and Toshiba, sees a potential for a partnership with Indian firms in view of the rapid increase in use of smartphones.

The MHL technology is known as de facto standard of choice for audio/video connectivity for mobile devises. The technology can turn a smart phone into a media player, said a MHL statement.

Michael Bergen, Senior Partner Alliance Manager at MHL consortium, who is currently visiting India, feels that the Indian market is inspiring for MHL as it had a mobile devise penetration of 73 percent and a huge number of feature phone makers upgrading to smartphones.

"In 2012 we saw significant adaption of MHL featured phones and smartphones. We expect the year 2013 will be the year of MHL enabled televisions," he said while pointing out that Sony recently introduced MHL enabled 42 inch HDTV W 650A television sets in India.

As part of its strategy in India, MHL Consortium is keen to work with Indian companies in developing new programmes and contents for devises. "We are here to introduce the benefits of MHL through our by invitation only experience programs and also build partnership with established mobile device manufacturers, third party developers, game publishers in India," Michael said.

With 200 members globally, the consortium has so far launched 300 unique products.
