Mumbai, Apr 20: “In the current age, speed is essential everywhere including art, theater and media, while none has patience to explore it for an in-depth study. It is owing to this trend, that the quality and completeness is missing in every sphere of life,” said Sandalwood movie director Nagatihalli Chandrashekar.
Nagatihalli Chandrashekar was speaking during a seminar organized at the joint auspices of Mumbai University (MU) department of Kannada, Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangh Maharashtra and Karnataka Sangh Mumbai, at J P Nayak auditorium of Mumbai University, Vidhyanagari Kalina campus, Santacruz (East) here on Friday April 19 afternoon.
The literature has history of centuries, while cine world is just few decades old and both are apart. The literature is appealing to the reader, while cinema has no barrier like the literature. The audience and reader cannot be alike.
At the jet set age, one has lost stillness and faces dangerous living. The consumerism is dangerous to art, while literature is in quandary. The literary values are degenerating. The thirst to amass experience is declining in the people. It’s irony that the trust is increasing on futility. It’s tragic that Karnataka has no professor proficient in teaching Halegannada.
“The many choices in life cause a chaotic life which is tragic. It is only the will power which is essential to create new society,” said Nagatihalli Chandrashekar while elaborating on the topic cinema and literature.
The theater specialist Dr Bharat Kumar Polipu in his talk on theater and encouragement said that theater is incomplete without savoring audience. The thundering applauses are not essential; instead the need of the hour is to respond to the rhythm of theater.
Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangh Maharashtra Vice president Kallige Dayasagar Chowta in his talk on newspapers and readers said that journalism has picked up unbelievable speed owing to technological innovations. “It has lessened the humanity. The media growth has derailed the journalism,” said Chowta.
Vidushi Shyamala Prakash spoke on Dr Gangubai Hanagal during the centenary endowment lecture. Rama spoke on Jayadevitai Ligade and Meena Waginkar spoke on Professor M V Inamdar.
Akshaya Kannada monthly honorary editor M B Kukian released Karnataka Samskruti Chintana book authored by Dr G N Upadhya and published by Abhijit Prakashan Mumbai.
Nagatihalli Chandrashekar released 'Arabbi Kadala Teeradalli Kannada Kalarava' book published by Kannada department of Mumbai University.
The social activist Nanda Shetty Kalyan, social activist teacher Mary Pinto, music composer Susheela Devadiga, Vidushi Shyamala Prakash, young stage artiste Surendra Kumar Hegde were felicitated at the same occasion.
Chandrashekar felicitated Basavaraj Kattimane who completed his M Phil from Kannada department of Mumbai University and also H H Valikar, Muniraju S V, Kandappa Vagge and Siddarama Ukkali during the programme.
Chandrashekar bid adieu to the students of final year MA (Kannada) of Mumbai University also.
Mumbai University head of department of Kannada – Dr G N Upadhyaya delivered the introductory address. Shyamala Radhesh and Geeta Gunjana rendered the prayers. Jyoti Satish welcomed the gathering and proposed vote of thanks. Poornima S Shetty and Chandra Joshi compered the programme.
