Spain to extradite Russian sex trafficker

Moscow, Apr 19 (IANS/RIA Novosti): Spain will extradite a Russian woman convicted of running a sex slavery ring, the Russian prosecutor general's office said Thursday.

Lyudmila Nesterova was convicted by both Spanish and Russian courts for her part in a criminal gang involved in the sex trade.

Between 2006 and 2008, Nesterova recruited young women in central and southern Russia, promising them employment abroad as waitresses and dancers. But, in reality, forcing them into prostitution.

In October, 2009, a Spanish court sentenced Nesterova to four years in prison. In March 2010 she was handed over to Russian law enforcement agencies.

Russian courts subsequently sentenced her to a total of nine years and five months in prison.

In July, 2012, Nesterova was returned to Spain, but has now been released by the Spanish penal authorities and "is to be sent to Russia to serve the sentence imposed by the Russian court", the prosecutor's office said in the statement.
