Italian PM deplores 'cowardly' attack in Boston

Rome, Apr 17 (IANS/AKI): Italy's Prime Minister Mario Monti has condemned the bombing at the Boston Marathon that killed three people and injured over 170, calling it a "cowardly and contemptible act of violence".

In a message to US President Barack Obama, Monti expressed Italy's "strong condemnation" of the attack.

"Its level of horror and the suffering it has caused fill us with indignation," Monti said.

"I send profound condolences to the victims' families and Italy's best wishes to the injured."

The attack near the finishing line of the world's oldest marathon has drawn international condemnation.

The victims included an eight-year-old boy, and at least 17 people were critically wounded. Several lost limbs in the attack.

Obama has vowed that the perpetrators would "feel the full weight of justice".
