Women suicide squads may target Mumbai: Patil

Mumbai, Apr 15 (IANS): Women suicide squads are being trained and readied to carry out terror attacks in Mumbai, Pune and other major cities in the state, Home Minister R.R. Patil told the Maharashtra legislative assembly here Monday.

Quoting a central intelligence alert received Jan 12, Patil said there was a possibility of terror attacks by women squads trained in Pakistan, with Mumbai and Pune being on the hit-list.

The minister said this in a written reply to legislators Yogesh Sagar and Gopal Shetty who raised the question about the central intelligence inputs and the counter-measures taken by the state government in this regard.

Patil said that soon after the intelligence input was received, Mumbai Police, railway police, all district police chiefs and other security agencies were sent wireless message to remain on high alert.

"A standard operating procedure has also been formulated and we are taking necessary measures to avoid any untoward incidents," Patil said.

According to official sources, women suicide squads were reportedly being prepared and women were being imparted commando training in Pakistan.

Among other measures, security officials have been instructed to remain on the lookout for women wearing scarves, especially those arriving from abroad.

This patil is utter example of marati thug. Its a ploy to divert public attention on NCP and their failures. Bomb blasts will happen even in the best policed states. No preparedness can eliminate that. But response can be planned and casualties treated better

Having issued a sort of open directive to security officials 'to remain on the lookout for women wearing scarves, especially those arriving from abroad', how impractical it becomes for the security officials to implement it? Really puzzled with the approach.

The police force's full concentration will be ladies wearing scarf, and the terrorist will easily escape as no check will be there for the ladies in western outfits. I don't know why they have to disclose these internal matters to public.

Womer wear scarfs even in church too. I wonder how the mumbai pandus will differentiate between suicide bombers and devotees. What if a suicide bomber wears a sari and a big bindi, and wears a suicide belt under a vest? What if she wears salwar kameez? What if she wears jeans pant and a kurti and wear suicide belt under petticoat? This RR patil is a moron and is watching too many bollywoood and marathi movies to make such simplistic, inane and insane remarks. I think bombers do their homework so as to blend with the crowd as much as possible.
