Beijing, April 14 (IANS): People in the Chinese capital city have been warned to mend their ways, especially while crossing the roads. According to a government direction, jaywalking will now invite 10 yuan (about $2) fine here.
People who do not wait for the green light for pedestrians before crossing the road will get on-the-spot fines, said the municipal traffic management bureau.
Beijing traffic authorities have said that jaywalkers will be fined starting May 6, China Daily reported Sunday. A trial implementation of the project has already been launched from this month.
Other Chinese provinces, including Sichuan and Shaanxi, have fines ranging from 20 to 50 yuan for jaywalking.
