Mexico City, Apr 10 (IANS/EFE): Portuguese artist Julião Sarmento is having his first exhibition in Mexico, where nearly 50 works will give visitors a look at the work of one of the world's most important contemporary artists.
"He is an artist of extreme quality, a true 'rara avis' on the contemporary art scene. This work is paradigmatic for contemporary international art because of its specificity, because of its absolute discourse from the standpoint of authorship," said curator Carlos Palacios.
The exhibition, titled "Una forma extrema de privacidad" (An Extreme Form of Privacy), opened Tuesday at the Arte Carrillo Gil museum.
The show features 47 works from the past 20 years, with performance works, graphics, paintings, sculptures and videos among the offerings.
Palacios's selection of the 47 works was praised by the artist.
"It is a personal view and an exquisite one about my work," Sarmento, who was born in Lisbon in 1948, told EFE while putting the finishing touches on the exhibition in Mexico City.
