Mangalore, Apr 2: A fire broke out in the post office located in DC office premises at around 12.15 pm on Tuesday April 2.
The post office is located in the first floor of district commissioner’s office. Fire fighters along with the post office employees put out the blaze.
Sources say that the fire had sparked in a waste bin and later spread to the documents lying on the table nearby. As soon as the employees noticed the fire, they informed the fire department. The employees even tried to stop the fire from spreading with the fire extinguishers.
Fire brigade personnel under the leadership of Shivappa Gowda, rushed to the spot and managed to put off the fire.
Speaking to Daijiworld, Shivappa Gowda said that even though the fire was not much intense, the rooms were filled with smoke. The exact cause of fire is not known. He said that it was not due to short circuit as there were no electrical equipments near the waste bin.
The employees might have thrown some fire igniting objects in the bin which might have caused the fire, he added.
As the fire was put off immediately, no major loss of property was reported. However few application forms were burnt.
