Mangalore, Apr 2: "My political career graph has been on the rise ever since I joined BJP and it is mainly because of the support and encouragement received by party members," said former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda who was recently appointed as the national vice-president of BJP.
He addressed the gathering at the district office on Tuesday April 2 during his first press meet after being appointed to the post.
DVS said that he was part of the party initially when he used to stick posters on the wall. "Having come from a small village, I did not expect that I would grow to such a great extent. It is only in BJP that an ordinary person can grow to such a great level," he said.
"You only need to handle things when you take up higher positions and rest senior leaders will guide you," added the former chief minister.
Commenting on the upcoming Assembly elections, he said, "It is a great challenge for us and it will also be a preparation for the general elections in 2014."
Admitting that the party did not work efficiently for the first three years, DVS said it was mainly because of Yeddyurappa who he said worked for personal benefits rather than for the party. "During this period, various allegations were levelled against BJP because of Yeddyurappa," he said.
"Later, during my 11 months reign as chief minister, I ruled the state sincerely without any corruption charges and the same was followed by Shettar’s government too. Overall, in 2 years we have given good administration and developed the state well," he said.
"I feel so proud to hold the position of national BJP vice-president which was earlier managed effectively by great persons like Jagannath Joshi and K S Hegde," he added.
He lauded the district party members for all their support and assured that he would give his best to the party.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and district president Padmanabh Kottary also spoke on the occasion. They lauded D V Sadananda Gowda for being appointed as the national vice-president of BJP and thereby bringing fame to the district.
Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker of state Assembly, MLA Krishna Palemar, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, Puttur MLA Mallika Prasad, Pratap Sinha Nayak, Sulochana GK Bhat, Monappa Bhandary, Nagaraj Shetty among others were present.
