Mangalore: Media told to uphold truth at Press Club Day celebrations

Mangalore, Mar 17: "The media has undergone various changes over the decades in terms of presentation and technology, but whatever changes it goes through, truth should be upheld and should never be sacrificed," said Sudhir Ghate, chairman of Magnum Intergrafiks Pvt Ltd.
He was addressing members of the media during Press Club Day celebrations at Lions Seva Mandir, Kadri here on Saturday March 16. The programme was jointly organized by Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists' Union (DKWJU), Mangalore Press Club and Patrika Bhavan Trust.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Ghate said that over the decades the journalism industry has undergone various technological changes with the advent of television and electronic media. "However, whatever the change, credibility is most important and truth should never be compromised," he stressed.
Emerging actor Arjun Kapikad thanked the media for the 'wonderful coverage and tremendous support' shown for his Tulu movie 'Telikeda Bolli'. He also called upon the media to render more support to Tulu film industry.
Senior journalist of Udayavani Manohar Prasad said that this year he completed three decades as journalist. "Presentation of news has changed now. Even a two-day fight between a couple becomes a big issue for a week in the media nowadays. When we talk of fighting against corruption, we should first have morality ourselves. We should be sensitive and do our job with responsibility," he said.
Zilla panchayat CEO Dr K N Vijayprakash advised the mediapersons never to deviate from facts in the news. "Deviating from facts will have its consequence on society, hence the media should desist from doing so. We should work for good causes collectively," he said.
On the occasion, achievers from the media field were felicitated by the dignitaries. They were Dayanand Kukkaje from Daijiworld, Manohar Prasad, Ronald Anil Fernandes, Prashanth Kadekar, Sandhya D'Souza, Ravi Posavanike, Sudhakar Yermal, Agnel Rodrigues, Satish Ira, Apul Ira, Mounesh Vishwakarma, Laxmi Machina, Ahmed Anwar, Satish Pundukai, Rajesh Shetty and Mohammed Arif Padubidri.
A cultural programme was also presented by the media persons. Gangadhar from Doordarshan and team gave a musical performance.
Prizes were distributed to winners of various competitions like cricket and other sports held for media persons recently.
