Mangalore: Thieves strike house at Kadike, loot gold worth Rs 4.8 lac

Mangalore, Mar 15: Thieves broke into a house at Kadike, Padupanambur village, Mulky here on the early hours of Friday March 15 and made away with gold worth Rs 4.8 lac and Rs 10,000 in cash.
House owner Raj Kumar in his complaint has informed that his family members were watching television till midnight, before retiring to bed. The theft came to light on Friday morning.
The thieves opened the almirah with the help of keys found below the cot in the bed room used by Raj Kumar. A long chain, a necklace, two chains, four finger rings, a necklace of pearls, bangles and earrings, altogther weighing 16 sovereigns and cash were found missing.
Raj Kumar, working as a teacher in Talapady government high school, had constructed a house at Kadike and settled there about four years back. His wife, Asha Kumar, serves as teacher in a private school at Suratkal. It is likely that the thieves had used some chemical substances to ensure that the family members did not wake up during the theft.
Fingerprint experts and snifter dogs were rushed to the spot. The Mulky police, who have registered a case, have begun investigation.
