Panaji, Mar 15: A Goan software engineer has designed a mobile application which can help a user in distress to reach to five emergency numbers including police at a push of a button.

Milind Prabhu, a software engineer, and his team has developed a free mobile app named Shout Out App that can help the person reach five numbers, when he is in distress. The software is formally a property of Genora Infotech, a Goa-based firm, which is brain child of Prabhu.

Prabhu said that the app can be more useful for women, who are vulnerable for the attacks and at times, don’t get time during the distress to call up the near ones or police for the help.

“The app will be on the front screen of the mobile and one need to just push a button which will send messages to five numbers indicating the location of the user through Global Positioning System,” he said.

Prabhu said that the software is currently compatible only for android phones, but it is also being developed for blackberry and i-pads. The software, he said, works without internet connectivity. It can be downloaded from the Google play, he added.

The young engineer had began his project in the Information Technology incubation centre of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and has now moved to his own premises as he has employed 21 staff.
