Mangalore, Mar 13: Corporation Bank celebrated its 108 Foundation Day on Tuesday March 12 with a grand ceremony at Dr T M A Pai International Convention Centre.
The function began by paying floral tribute to the Bank’s founder president Khan Bahadur Haji Abdullah Haji Kasim Saheb Bahadur by Ajai Kumar, chairman and managing director of the bank, Amar Lal Daultani and B K Srivastav, executive directors, directors of Corporation Bank and other dignitaries present on the occasion.
The Bank honored five renowned personalities for their service to the society, with ‘CorpBank Lifetime Achievement Award’ - Padma Bhushan Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Padma Bhushan Devendra Raj Mehta, Padmashree Aloysius Prakash Fernandes, Padmashree A Hariharan and Anand Kumar.
The CorpBank Lifetime Achievement was presented to Padma Bhushan Dr D Veerendra Heggade for his service to the humanity through the enrichment of the spiritual realm. Padma Bhushan Devendra Raj Mehta, the founder of Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, Jaipur which provides physical, economic and social rehabilitation of the disabled.
Padmashree Aloysius Prakash Fernandes who has been instrumental in bringing about a revolution in rural development through Myrada, recognized as the largest microcredit and women’s empowerment programme in the world. Padmashree A Hariharan – singer, composer and pioneer in fusion music who has enlivened his mellifluous voice in many languages. Anand Kumar for enabling the financially weaker students of the society to aspire for better life through higher education. The Super 30 programme conducted by Kumar for coaching economically weaker students for preparing for the prestigious IIT-JEE examination
Corporation Bank is always in the forefront in discharging its duty as a responsible corporate citizen and continues to support numerable charitable institutions working for the well being of the underprivileged, destitute challenged and senior citizens across the country. On the memorable day of 108th Foundation Day of the Bank it gave donation to three institutions.
The Bank donated Rs 6,48,000 to Vivekananda Public School, Hyderabad to support 108 economically andsocially backward students as part of 108th Foundation Day of the Bank. The Vivekananda Public School, Hyderabad is managed by Vivekananda Educational Centre- registered as a Trust.
The Trust has more than 400 Students on its Rolls and many of them are from the under-privileged/below poverty line families and the School provides free education, uniforms, books and mid day meals to them.
The Bank also donated Rs 10 lac to Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, Jaipur for providing free artificial limbs to needy poor. Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, Jaipur [BMVSS] provides artificial limbs, calipers and other aids and appliances to the disabled. It has, so far, extended assistance to more than 1.5 million disabled beneficiaries all over the country. The Samithi continues to provide the assistance to the disabled who are below the poverty line free of charge.
The Bank donated Rs 5 lac to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan - Mangalore towards maintenance of its building. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has around 125 Kendras to serve the society and has been recognised as an Institution of National Eminence.
On the occasion, the book “Aaradhana” containing 108 Aarthis and Sthutis was released by the Bank. The book was compiled by the Official Language Division of the Bank. The book is a unique collection of Aarthis and Sthutis from across the country in Hindi and Sanskrit.
The function was followed by a musical evening by the playback singer Padmashree A Hariharan. The melodious musical evening organized by the Bank was an unforgettable treat for the connoisseurs of Indian music. The pioneer of fusion music made the listeners spellbound with his soothing voice. The musicians accompanying the singer synchronized well with the tunes and the ambiance.
The packed seats of the hall indicated the Mangaloreans love for the music. Many of the luminaries of Mangalore city were present at the occasion. The end result of the enchanting Foundation Day function and musical evening organized by the Bank was an evening to be remembered.
Foundation day celebrations and functions were also organized by the Bank at various centers across the country. The Bank is also organizing wellness and health checkup camps on the occasion at more than 300 locations across the country between March 10 and March 16. The Bank is taking such initiatives in organizing wellness camps to reach out to the welfare of the society.
Corporation Bank started functioning on March 12, 1906 in the temple town Udupi in the then South Kanara district under the leadership of Khan Bahadur Haji Abdullah Haji Kasim Saheb Bahadur. The Bank completed 107 years of its existence and stepped into the 108th year with renewed sense of commitment and dedication. The Bank has grown from a humble beginning as a "Nidhi" with a first day business of Rs 38, annas 13 and pies 2, to a business level of over Rs 2,60,000 crore as on its 108th Foundation Day.
