Mumbai, Mar 12: The cultural and literary committee of metro based Bunts Sangha organized seminar on the life and literary works of Kannada and Konkani veteran litterateur Kayyara Kinhanna Rai, at Bunts Bhavan auditorium, Kurla (East) here on Saturday March 9.
Bunts Sangh president chartered accountant Shankar B Shetty presided over the programme. Karnataka Kannada Sahitya Academy awardee litterateur and scientist Dr Vyasaraya Ninjoor inaugurated the programme.
The translated book on Marathi stories, authored by Ratnakar R Shetty, honorary chief editor of Bantaravani, bulletin of Bunts Sangh was released on the same occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the researcher Chandra Joshi said that Marathi stories in Kannada enriches the language to offer variety to readers.
Professor Sitaram R Shetty spoke on Kayyara Kinhanna Rai’s poems, Kallige Dayasagar Chota spoke on the multi-facetted personality of Kayyara Kinhanna, Dr K Raghunat spoke on Upanishat poetry authored by Kayyara Kinhanna and Harish K Hejmady spoke on Tulu literary contributions of Kayyara Kinhanna.
Professor Sitaram Shetty said that Kayyara Kinhanna was non-Brahmin first poet who was a true Kannadiga in Kerala.
Shankar Shetty hoped that Kayyara Kinhanna gets the status of Rastra Kavi for his extraordinary contributions to Kannada and Tulu.
Dayasagar said that Kayyara Kinhanna was a distant relative of him. He was a family man engaged in farming, a lovable person. He was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology and returned to his native for the welfare of rural masses, he said.
Harish Hejmady said that Kayyara Kinhanna’s contributions to Kannada and Tulu are significant, who was involved in social activities as a close associate of Narayan Kille.
Bunts Sangha vice president Karnire Vishwanath Shetty, honorary chief secretary chartered accountant Sadasiv Shetty, joint secretary Ultoor Mohandas Shetty, joint treasurer Praveen B Shetty, women wing president Lata P Shetty, Dr Sunita M Shetty were present on the dais.
The women’s wing members of Bunts Sangh sang songs penned by Kayyara Kinhanna Rai on the occasion.
Bunts Sangh – cultural and literary Committee president Ashok Pakkala welcomed the gathering. Saroja Shetty rendered the prayers. Chitra R Shetty proposed vote of thanks. Narayan Shetty Nandalike compered the programme.
