Udupi: Half Marathon at Manipal gets enthusiastic response

Udupi, Mar 10: Scores of people descended on the streets of Manipal here on Sunday March 10 to participate in the Syndicate Bank Half Marathon, organized under the aegis of Udupi district Athletic Association.
The marathon was flagged off by Kota Srinivas Poojary, minister for ports and muzrai. As many as 1,750 people took part.
In men’s category, Arun Fernandes from Sri Lanka bagged the first place, Sadashiv from SDM College, Ujire bagged second while GP Vishwanath from Alva’s BPED College bagged the third place.
In women’s K N Archana from Alva’s College bagged the first place, M M Disha Malakanthi from Sri Lanka the second and Danushree N S from Kukke Subramanya College the third place.
In primary section – boy’s category, Sudeep from Udupi sports hostel, Shreesha from Nitte NSAM and Sandeep from Udupi sports hostel came first, second and third respectively. Among girls, Nehal from Nitte NSAM bagged first, Reema from Udupi sports club secure the second spot while Nagartna from Udupi sports club came third.
In high school division – among boys Anil Kumar from VJC Kota, Kiran from Perdur high school and Shivaram from Cherkadi Sharada high school bagged the first, second and third places.
In girl’s category, Sumathi from Cherkadi high school secure the first place, Rashmitha from Amparu Sanjay Gandhi high school bagged second and Sahana from the same school won the third spot.
In college level – among boys Ashraf from Nitte NSAM bagged first place, Manjunath from the same college came second and Shekar Marati from Kota government college secured the third place.
Among girls – Jyothi from Hebri government college won the first place, Shilpa Kamath from Katapady KVSM college came second and Keerthi from Basrur Sharada college was third.
In celebrity men's category, Kalandar Laheed from Kapu Vidhyaniketan bagged the top spot, Shankar from police came second while Prashanth Jogi from Manipal press bagged the third place. Among women, Jyothi V Shetty won the first place, Arunakala Rao from Hiriyadka was second and DK Chitrakala from Manipal secured the third place.
Chandrashekar Heggde from Udupi district Athletic Association, Mohandas Shetty, Lilly Jay, Prof P D Poojary, Niranjan Rao, Dr RoshanKumar Shetty were honoured on the occasion.
Dr M T Reju, deputy commissioner, Dr Boralingaiah, SP, Dr Prabhudeva, DYSP, inspector Sadananda A, MLA K Raghupathi Bhat, Syndicate Bank GMs P K Saxena and Anil Kumar, DGM Subramani R, director Dinkar Poonja, Dr H S Ballal, Manipal University pro-chancellor, Jayakar Shetty, Hariprasad Rai, Suresh Shetty, Purushottam Shetty, Raju Velu, K Balakrishna Hegge, A Dinesh Kumar, Balakrishna Muddodi among others were present.
