Mangalore: Hit-and-run - Vehicle moving on wrong side kills bike rider

Mangalore, Mar 5: In a case that highlighted the consequences of traffic violation, a youth was killed on the spot when a vehicle approaching from the wrong side rammed into his bike and sped away without stopping.
The accident occured on the night of Monday March 4 near Yeyyadi.
The deceased has been identified as Ritesh Dandakeri (26), a resident of Dandakeri in Yeyyadi. He was the son of the late Narayana Kotian and Shalini.
Ritesh was on his way home when the accident occured. It is said that as he approched Yeyyadi, a Mahindra vehicle, to avoid taking a U-turn around the divider, drove on the wrong side and hit Ritesh's bike head-on.
The impact of the accident was such that Ritesh was killed on the spot and his bike was smashed. The Mahindra vehicle, which eyewitnesses said was a pick-up, sped way before anyone could stop it
As Ritesh was a resident of the area, a large crowd including relatives, friends and the public gathered at the spot.
Kadri traffic police led by inspector Nagaraj arrived and along with the locals, conducted a search for the vehicle. Police stations across the city were also alerted, but it could not be located.
Kadri traffic police have registered a case. Search for the Mahindra vehicle and its owner is on.
