Rio de Janeiro, March 4 (IANS): Clarence Seedorf's Botafogo advanced to the final of Brazil's Guanabara Cup with a 2-0 victory over local rivals Flamengo.
Defender Julio Cesar opened the scoring at the Engenhao Stadium Sunday with a low finish after his evasive run into the area before Vitinho made it 2-0 in the 93rd-minute with a first-time strike, reports Xinhua.
Former Brazil goalkeeper Jefferson, who denied Flamengo with a series of fine second-half saves, said Botafogo was already thinking about success in the final against Vasco da Gama next Sunday.
"Before the match people said Flamengo were favourites but we showed that we are a formidable unit too. We aren't going to settle for second best," Jefferson said.
Vasco progressed to the final after defeating reigning Brazilian Serie A champions Fluminense 3-2 Saturday.
