Industry wants logistics hub in Goa

Panaji, Mar 2 (IANS): The Goa industry is lobbying with the state government for creating a logistics hub in the state which can cater to the neighbouring regions of southern Maharashtra and north Karnataka.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Industries Minister Mahadev Naik, Goa Chamber for Commerce and Industries (GCCI) president Manguirish Pai Raikar said the minister has sought a specific proposal from the industry stakeholders for developing Goa as a logistics hub.

"GCCI feels that Goa has got potential to emerge as a good logistics hub in west India and can cater not only to Goa but also to large parts of southern Maharashtra and northern Karnataka," Raikar said.

Logistics, he said, would serve as a great industrial platform for the state and should be given an industrial status.

"Medium and small scale industries treat logistics as an industrial activity, so the Goa government has to grant recognition and give due importance to this activity," Raikar said.
