Bantwal, Feb 26: The girl who was allegedly raped and murdered at Kalladka here on Mondau February 25 was laid to rest amidst a huge gathering of family and well wishers on Tuesday February 26.
The girl, identified as 22-year-old Soumya, was found dead near a small pond at Kuntalgudde. The marks on her body indicated that she had been murdered, and allegeldy raped. Police took Satish (25) into custody the same evening.

During the last rites, former union minister Janardhan Poojary speaking to media promised maximum financial and other help to the family and handed over Rs 10,000 to them.
Condemning the murder, he said the incident has brought shame and that he would hold discussions on the matter with the IG, he said.
Mamatha Gatti, district women president and MLA Ramanath Rai were also present. Mamatha Gatti demanded the authorities to give a financial relief of Rs 20 lac to the victim’s family, similar to that received by the family of Delhi rape victim.
Soumya's family is financially poor, and with the help of a few donors in the village, the children were able to get education, said sources.
According to the locals, Soumya was intelligent and a well mannered girl, who was earning for her family and had aspired to become a teacher.
