Udupi: Thieves loot diamonds, gold worth Rs 8.5 lac from doctor's house

Udupi, Feb 25: Thieves broke into a house at Subhashnagar in Shankerapura here on Sunday February 24 night and decamped with diamonds and gold ornaments worth Rs 8.5 lac and Rs 81,000 in cash.
The theft was reported at 'Ram Kiran', the residence of Dr Ravindranath Shetty.
On Sunday at around 3.30 pm, Dr Ravindra and his wife left for Mangalore to attend a function. The theft came to light when they returned home on Monday February 25 at around 8.30 am.
The thieves broke the door lock and entered the house, it is said.
Diamond necklace and bangles worth Rs 4 lac, a gold chain weighing 8 sovereigns, a gold chain and pendent weighing 5 sovereigns, three bangles weighing 6 sovereigns, another gold necklace of 4 sovereigns, silver plates and tumblers were stolen, together with Rs 81,000 in cash.
Udupi SP Dr Boralingaiah, Karkala sub division DySP Jayanth Shetty, DCIB inspector Praveen Nayak, and Kaup circle inspector Shivanand Walekar visited to the spot. A canine squad and fingerprint experts were also pressed into action.
Speaking to daijiworld, Dr Boralingaiah said that a special team has been formed under the guidance of DySP Jayant Shetty to investigate the case, and that the culprits will be arrested soon. Information is being gathered about gangs that are active in the coastal area, he added.
