Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore
Mangalore, Feb 20: Day after day, clever air passengers with ulterior motives seem to be finding new and innovative ways to smuggle in gold and other precious items. After chocolates, it is now the turn of oats to serve as means of smuggling gold stealthily.
Unfortunately for the passenger, as in the previous case, he could not succeed in his mission.
The passenger, identified as Abdul Ghani of Bhatkal, was arrested by the DRI officials at Mangalore International Airport on Wednesday February 20.
He was caught trying to smuggle in 300 grams of gold, concealed in a tin of Quaker Oats.
He arrived by the early morning Air India Express flight from Dubai on Wednesday.
Further investigations are on.
This is the second such incident reported in a span of less than a week. On February 16, a passenger, also from Bhatkal, was caught with 6 kg of gold concealed in boxes of chocolates.
