Mumbai, Feb 19: “Women play a prominent role in protecting the mother tongue, culture and traditions. They should imbibe these values among the youth. With this they can be proud of their language and our culture will also grow,” said MG Karkera, director of Archedia shipping limited.

He addressed the gathering after inaugurating the 15th ‘Vicharabharathi Sammelana’ of Goregaon Karnataka Sangha held at Bajaj auditorium in Malam (West) on Sunday February 17.

The programme was presided over by prominent writer, critic Dr Banjagere Jayaprakash.

Ramesh Shetty Payyar, president of Karnataka Sangha welcomed and released the annual issue of ‘Mumbelaku’.

As part of the Sammelana, three workshops were organized.

The first workshop sponsored by Hotel Link View, Borivili was inaugurated by Dr Shilpa D Shetty. Prominent author, columnist Ravi R Anchan gave a lecture on ‘Nagachandrana Ramachandra Charitha Purana’ and Professor Shivaramayya gave a lecture on ‘Narahari Thorave Ramayana’. Laxmi R Shetty gave introductory message while Aparna Rao compered the workshop.

The second workshop sponsored by Hotel Dayanand, Vile Parle was inaugurated by Dayanand Gujran. Dr Kumshi Ramesh gave lecture on ‘Kuvempu avara Ramayana Darshanam’ and Dr Shubha Maravanthe gave lecture on ‘Ramayana Mahanweshanam’.

Varija Sadanand gave introductory message while Sumitra Gujaran compered the workshop.

The third workshop sponsored by Sri Guru Caterers had Vishwanath Shetty as the main guest. Dr Meti Mallikarjuna gave lecture on ‘Muddannana Ramashwamedha’ while Dr Geetha gave lecture on ‘Masti Avara Srirama Pattabhisheka’. Vasanthi Kotekar compered the workshop.

Various entertainment programmes were also presented by the Sangha members.

Sujatha V Kotian, Vishya D Deshpande welcomed the gathering while Vedha M Suvarna, chief secretary delivered the vote of thanks.

Former presidents SM Shetty and Shakunthala Prabhu, GT Acharya, Vasanthi Kotekar, Padmavathi Shetty, Seema Kulkarni, Nirmala Shivattaya, Sumitra Kunder among others were present.
