'Tourists with less clothes blind Goa visitors'

Panaji, Feb 19 (IANS): Foreign tourists wearing "less clothes" at Goa beaches often blind visitors coming to the state, as they cannot see anything else, a witty Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said Tuesday.

He was speaking at the national workshop on "Electronic System Design and manufacturing: Advantage Goa" held at a hotel here.

"Foreign tourists with less clothes brighten things so much that often you do not see anything else," Parrikar said, while making a point about how the overwhelming footprint of tourism in the state, often led visitors to the state to believe that Goa does not have any other significant industry.

Further allegorising, the chief minister, who is known for his wit, said that just because one does not see the moon and stars during the day, does not mean they aren't there.

"It is just that they are hidden because of the sunlight," Parrikar said.

"You just see tourism here. But we have other industries too like the pharmaceutical and IT industry, which are doing very well," he further said.

Foreign tourists wearing beachwear has often been synonymous with media coverage of Goa's beach belt. The state attracts over 2.6 million tourists annually, out of which half a million are foreigners.

What Mr.Denis Pinto and Mr.David Lobo have written is absolutely true. The Mangy Catholics are very broad minded people. They are exposed no doubt to western culture and thinking. They love to live life and have fun, like the Goan Catholics. Many non-Catholics too try to copy their lifestyle these days.

Mr.Parrikar, please govern Karnataka too for 3 months or till the coming Assembly elections.

GOA CM is an educated man with head on shoulder. I wish every state had a CM like him. He is protecting Goa tourism and the economy. He will not allow VHP/BD/RSS/SRS/HJV types to surface for the survival and image of Goa.
Besides, I liked Bhandarkar Maam's poetry very much. Keep it up Sir!

Mr. Parrikar , we Mangies come to taste goan cuisine which is relished. Some of your dishes like :1) The fiery Goan Pork Vindaloo 2) Pork Sarpotel 3) Chicken Cafreal 4) Goan chicken Roast 5) Goan meat curry with vegetables 6) The divine Chicken or prawn Xacuti 7)Goan Salted pork 8) Goan Feijoada 9) Goan mixed meat stew 10) Goan egg curry, must be tasted. Only a few joints serve authentic goan food like NOSTALGIA on the Madgao - Ponda Road, which is awesome. With it have coconut fenny "maad" or Urrack ( home made ) on the rocks and with a little Limca. Its a perfect blend.

Forget the foreigners and their clothes. My wife is certainly the best !! We go to Goa to have a great time and without the Bajrang Dal, HJV & Rama Sene frustrated idiots around.

Mr. Parrikar, You are partly right as for the other north Indian tourists. But we from Mangalore come to Goa often only for the authentic Goan cuisine ( difficult to find these days ) and the splendid drink called " fenny ". Mangaloreans also love the 'suseghar" attitude of the local Goans. Culturally there is not much difference between the Mangalorean Catholics and the Goan Catholics. Both love to enjoy life the western way. We Mangaloreans are not bothered about the 'spegati' outfits of the foreigners who visit Goa.

Mr. Parrikar, I wish we have a CM like you in Karnataka - bold, strong and with a vision. You have kept trouble mongering groups and its illiterate leaders away from Goa which will certainly enable Goans to be united and lead to progress. I can say you are much better a candidate for PMs post than butcher of BJP. Keep it up Mr. Parrikar.

If Gaze's could 'penetrate' then Mr Parrikar would have had both his hands full in addition to the 'vision' problem(!) he is referring to!
