Mangalore: Tulu convention in New Delhi on Feb 24

Mangalore, Feb 18: Tulu Siri and Tulu Sahitya Academy in collaboration with Kannada and culture department of Karnataka and various pro-Kannada organizations will hold ‘Delhi Tulu Siri’ convention, urging the inclusion of Tulu language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Addressing a press meet Vasanth Shetty Bellare, convener, Delhi Tulu Siri, said, “Tulu language has its own history, culture, and traditions. It is the dream of Tuluvas to include it in the 8th Schedule of the Indian constitution.”
“So, on Sunday February 24, Tulu Siri will hold a convention at Delhi Kannada School premises in Lodhi Estate, New Delhi, in which a plea will be made to the Prime Minister demanding inclusion of the Tulu language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution by Tulu Abbaka Rani Kendra Bantwal, and Tulu Sahitya Academy. The main intention of this convention is to demand special recognition for Tulu and to educate about Tulu language. Many MPs, MLAs, litterateurs, politicians, and film actors of Karnataka will join this convention,” he added.
Dr Veerappa Moily will inaugurate the convention. Oscar Fernandes, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mallikarjuna Kharge, K Rehman Khan, K H Muniyappa, D V Sadananda Gowda, Jayaprakash Hegde, Kota Shrinivas Poojary, Surendra Kumar, Suresh S Shetty, Dr M Mohan Alva, and Bykere Nagesh will be present as chief guests.
Tulu cultural programmes will be performed on the occasion.
Umanath A Kotian, president, Tulu Sahitya Academy, said that with support of MP and MLAs of both districts, Tulu Sahithya Academy is prepared to submit a memorandum demanding special recognition for Tulu language.
Chandrahas Rai, Dr Padmanabha Bhat, Prof Tukaram Poojary, Jaganath Shetty, and Manjula were present at the press meet.
