Yangon, Feb 15 (IANS): Parliamentary delegations from Myanmar and India held talks in Nay Pyi Taw and exchanged views on further bilateral cooperation between the two counties and the two parliaments, official media reported Friday.
The Myanmar delegation was led by Speaker of the House of Representatives (Lower House) U Shwe Mann, while the visiting Indian delegation was headed by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, reported Xinhua.
Shwe Mann expressed Myanmar's commitment to economic reform following political reform and willingness to cooperate in economic, investment and trade and technology sectors.
Meira Kumar also expressed India's hope that the friendship between the two countries would be further strengthened due to exchange of visits at high level over the past year.
She spoke of the Indian government's plan to send a delegation to Myanmar to conduct parliamentary courses to staff of the office of the parliament.
She also pledged to give more assistance to reform in Myanmar.
