Mangalore, Feb 13: Demanding a salary increment and an increase in house rent allowance; the Karnataka State teachers - lecturers action committee staged a protest in front of DC office on Wednesday February 13.
Addressing the protest, Shivashankar Bhat K, president of Dakshina Kannada district committee said, "the teachers and lecturers receive less salary when compared to that of other states".
They also demanded to merge the special wages which they receive into their basic pay.
Speaking about the house rent allowance, he said for Bangalore city, HRA was hiked from 25 to 30%. "With implementation of this, it shows that 5 lac teachers who are in rural areas are neglected. The government should soon consider this and increase the HRA even to the teachers of rural areas", he added.
As a part of this, a memorandum was submitted to the district commissioner placing their demands.
Ramakrishna Allar, chief secretary, Ramakrishna Shiroor among others were present.
