Rio de Janeiro, Feb 10 (IANS): Flamengo is reportedly preparing an offer to lure former Juventus star Alessandro Del Piero to the Rio de Janeiro football club.
Brazilian legend Zico, now a Flamengo board member, is in talks with Del Piero and his current club Sydney FC about a two-year deal for the 38-year-old, reports Xinhua.
Del Piero is said to be disillusioned with the Australian outfit, which he joined in September last year for a reported $2 million a season.
Despite the striker's 10 goals from 16 appearances this season, Sydney is currently eighth out of 10 teams in the A league standings.
"This is new for me, different," said the Italian 2006 World Cup winner. "I'm involved with a team which has a big challenge ahead. Our start hasn't been good due to injuries and the loss of players.
"It is frustrating but we have to fix what is wrong and focus on improving our situation."
Del Piero is Juventus' all-time highest scorer with 290 goals in 705 matches from 1993 to 2012.
