Windies women facing uphill task

Cuttack, Feb 10 (IANS/CMC): West Indies captain Merissa Aguilleira says her team can ill-afford to make mistakes and face an uphill task to get through the supers six phase of the ICC Women's World Cup.

West Indies women have four points and will need to topple two former champions New Zealand and Australia to advance, reports CMC.

Windies second super six game is against Australia Wednesday in Mumbai.

"We understand well the predicament which we face right now," Aguilleira said.

"It's the Super Six and we have new rules and we can ill-afford to make mistakes, so we have to be on top of our game, whichever team we play."

The captain was commenting after her side survived a now familiar batting slump before steadying themselves to beat South Women by two wickets, in their opening Super Six game Friday.

West Indies wobbled to 196 for six before Shemaine Campbelle came to their rescue with 33 from 42 balls.

"We knew we had to start the Super Six on a good note and this is an example of a good note," said Aguilleira.

"We could have done it much easier, but I guess there are areas in which we need to improve, and after all, it's about moving forward."
