Dubai, Feb 10 : USWAS, an association of Shirva parishioners residing in the UAE, under the leadership of Nelson Castelino, staged 'Shirva Vodle Festh - 2013' to mark its annual fest in UAE at the Al Masah Ball Room, Sheraton Deira, Dubai, on Friday February 8.
USWAS, which came into existence towards the end of December 2002, has over 200 members and is driven by the motto, 'Lend a hand not for self, but for each other.' It has been providing financial assistance to the needy for various purposes like education of the financially backward children, medical aid, house construction, marriages of members belonging to poor families, and such other purposes of the community of Shirva and surrounding regions efficiently with generous help from its sponsors and well-wishers.
The programme started with a prayer song by all committee members. Roshan Menezes welcomed the gathering.
In a brief stage programme Nelson Castelino welcomed Fr Anthony Serrao, parish priest of Bendur church and all other guests attending the function. Fr Serrao, In his speech, praised USWAS’s dedication to the needy. The stage programme concluded with vote of thanks from secretary Oscar Rego.
Vodle Festh provided a day of entertainment with a host of fun games, face painting, spot prizes and dances from local talents.
The 'Rising Star of Shirva,' Prashanth Sequeira, presented songs from his album ‘Tunch Moga,’ which was released in December, and also sang duets with Joshal D’Souza and Nisha D’Souza.
They also sang some hit Konkani songs. Child artiste Sheldon Fernandes, winner of ‘Pearl Voice Junior 2011’ sang ‘Nenti Bala’ and ‘Poise Poise Manglura’ melodiously.
‘Boskeambeghar’ (Claudy, Manoj, Denis Mathias, Sharon, Oscar, Canute, Laveena) provided excellent comedy skits. Dances to various Bollywood numbers was yet another highlight of the day. Roshan Menezes conducted lots of spot games and fun games for kids and adults and kept the audience engaged till the end.
All the artists, dancers, and singers were felicitated with mementos. Three special persons were honoured during the programme—Sheldon Fernandes (‘Pearl Voice Junior’ winner), Nisha D’Souza, and Joshal D’Souza. A lavish buffet was served on the occasion.
The programme concluded with a raffle draw followed by ‘Baila’ where young and old joined in.
