Mangalore: City Centre becomes first mall to go Wi-Fi in Karnataka

Mangalore, Feb 9: Bharati Airtel in tie-up with Mohitsham group setup an Airtel Wi-Fi hotspot zone at City Centre mall and was inaugurated on Saturday February 9.
Harshad, MD of City Centre mall inaugurated the Wi-Fi in the presence of Saurabh Goel, chief operating officer of Bharati Airtel Karnataka and Sahood, executive chairman of Mohtisham.
Bharati Airtel, a leading global telecommunication company declared Mangalore the first city and the mall the first one in Karnataka to be Wi-Fi enabled, and said that Airtel will now provide high-speed internet in other popular hangouts such as cafes, restaurants, and public places like hospitals and hotels.
After inaugurating the Wi-Fi hotspot zone Saurabh Goel said, "Mangalore is now a wi-fi city, soon to be followed by Udupi and Manipal. Ours is a very secure network that has been created within the approved framework of TRAI guidelines and regulations. We have also taken care to make this a hassle-free login and browsing experience," he added.
The Airtel Wi-Fi hotspots provides users with a speed of 2 mbps. All retail partners in the mall that are Airtel Wi-Fi hotspots have been provided admin access to create login coupons. These coupons come at cost of Rs 20 for half an hour, Rs 30 for 1 hour with 48-hour validity and Rs 50 for two hours with 7-day validity.
A coupon bought at any Airtel Wi-Fi outlet can be used at any location in the city.
Currently, about 100 retail outlets in Mangalore have been covered and the company’s aim is to reach a target of 300 outlets by March 2013.
