Mangalore, Jan 31: Bangalore police on Thursday January 31 arrived in the city to take custody of notorious criminal Rashid Malbari, who is lodged in Mangalore jail.
Sources said that the Bangalore police have sought his custody over a robbery case filed in Shivajinagar police station in Bangalore on January 11. It is said that Rashid is the prime accused in the case.
However, when the police arrived at the jail with an arrest warrant, Rashid refused to go, stating that the policemen were in plainclothes, and that he would go only if higher police officials came to take him.
He also told the police that he was unwell and could not travel by night. He was then taken for medical examination.
Meanwhile, Rashid's wife, who arrived in the city from Mumbai on Wednesday January 30, alleged that the police had hatched a conspiracy against her husband.
She claimed that on January 11 Rashid was lodged in Mangalore jail, and hence could not be an accused in a robbery case in Bangalore. "The police want to finish off my husband in a fake encounter and hence have come to take his custody on false charges," she alleged.
Bangalore police will halt overnight and are expected to take Rashid to Bangalore on Friday February 1 early morning.
The court hearing on the case against him in Shivajinagar police station is scheduled for Saturday February 2.
Rashid Malbari was arrested in a joint operation by the local police, the state and police intellligence back in March 2009. He has a crime history dating back to 2006, which includes opening fire at rival gangster Chhota Rajan in September 2000 in Bangkok. He became active in Mumbai after Raja Gore, a frontline Chhota Rajan shooter, killed Malbari's elder brother Ismail outside Vikhroli Court in 2007.
