Mangalore: BD raid - All youngsters above 18, no immoral activity, say police

Mangalore, Jan 31: In connection to the raid on an ice cream parlour in Attavar by Bajrang Dal activists on Wednesday, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Jagannath, said that the youth, who were brought from the ice cream parlour by the policemen, were freed later, as all of them had attained majority, and they were not engaged in any indecent or illegal activities.
The students in question were brought to the police station for security reasons, by deputing the department vehicle, upon getting information that people had gathered near the ice parlour, he added, duly clarifying that no cases were registered in this regard. When daijiworld contacted Pandeshwar police station, the officials said they rushed to the spot upon getting a call.
Another source said that Bajrang Dal activists not only raided the parlour, but even attempted to attack the boys and girls. While some of the youngsters ran and escaped from their hands, three boys and girls were caught. By then the police arrived and rescued the youngsters, said the source.
In this connection, some youth Congress leaders, angered by the incident, visited the police station in question and had a heated argument with the ACP. Activists of Hindu organizations and youth Congress gathered in front of the police station in large numbers. The policemen were forced to shoo away the gathering by waving their canes, to avert possible friction.
Speaking to Daijiworld, a member of Bajrang Dal said that they had been receiving complaints from the locals about 'immoral activities' going on in the upper floors of the ice cream parlour, where there is a music lounge and an open terrace, said to be a smoking zone.
The Bajrang Dal member claimed that the residents of the neighbouring apartments have been watching immoral activities going on in the terrace from quite a few days, especially between 4:30 pm and 9 pm.
"The Bajrang Dal kept a watch over the happenings in the open smoking zone. After confirming the sort of activities taking place, we acted on it and also informed the Pandeshwar police, who in turn visited the spot and entered the parlour with us," he said.
A representative of the students who were taking for questioning said that the students had been there just for a coffee. They also confirmed that they were seated in the open terrace.
The representative also said that the members of Bajrang Dal entered the parlour, the frightened customers and students inside ran and escaped. Four girls and three boys who couldn’t get their way out were caught.

Mangalore, Jan 30: Activists of Bajrang Dal on Wednesday January 30 barged into an ice cream parlour at Attavar here, and handed over three boys and four girls to the police.
The activists alleged that 'immoral activities' had been going on at the parlour, and claimed that they had acted on a 'public complaint' in this regard.
The Bajrang Dal carried out the raid with the help of its women's wing 'Durga Vahini'.
It is said that the youngsters were in the music lounge on the top floor of the parlour. Some people noticed them from the outside and complained to Bajrang Dal, sources said.
The Bajrang Dal activists called Pandeshwar police who arrived at the spot. The boys and girls were taken to Pandeshwar police station for questioning.
It is learnt that the youngsters were later taken for medical checkup.
There were no drugs and police did not find anything amiss. The boys and girls were released later and no case was filed. A few cigarettes were recovered from the youngsters.
